Materials

  • 1 fruit grapefruit, sliced
  • 3 to 4 sprigs fresh lavender (or 1 tablespoon dried lavender buds)
  • 2 to 3 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  • Add the grapefruit slices, lavender, thyme, vanilla extract, and water to a Dutch oven, saucepan, or other heat-safe pot.
  • Place the pot over low heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  • Allow the simmer pot to gently bubble, adding additional water as needed to maintain the water level.
  • Continue simmering for up to 2 hours, or longer if desired, replenishing the water as it evaporates.
  • Remove from heat and enjoy the fresh citrus and herbal fragrance throughout your home.

Notes

  • Store cooled simmer pot ingredients in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reuse by adding fresh water.
  • For a stronger lavender scent, add additional lavender buds during simmering.
