Happenings Around the Nest - Week 15

This Week's Happenings Around the Nest

As we head into the final stretch before Christmas, things around the nest have started to slow in the best way. It's been a mix of small decisions, cozy moments, and letting things be a little more imperfect and a lot more enjoyable.

Here's what's been happening this week.

Letting the plants stay put this Christmas

One thing I wrestle with every December is what to do with my houseplants. They still need light and regular care, even when the house starts shifting into full Christmas mode. For years, I tried moving them around to make room for decorations, and every year they let me know they weren't thrilled about it.

This year, I decided not to fight it. I left them right where they're happiest in our south-facing window and simply let Christmas move in around them. A few twinkle lights, a little white house tucked in here and there, and suddenly it felt intentional. One of those "if you can't beat them, you may as well join them" moments.

It turns out plants and Christmas can coexist just fine when everyone gets what they need.

Speaking of plants, I have a few new posts:

Nantucket Christmas Cranberry Pie

I made a Nantucket Christmas Cranberry Pie for a holiday party we hosted this week, and it was one of those desserts that just feels right this time of year. Tart cranberries, a buttery base, and that cozy, old-fashioned vibe that belongs at a Christmas gathering.

It's simple, a little nostalgic, and always a crowd-pleaser. I love having a dessert like this on hand during the holidays, something you can make ahead, set out on the counter, and not fuss over while you're visiting with friends.

It's definitely one I'll be making again before Christmas rolls around. You can find the recipe here.

One more week/holiday break

Christmas is officially just one week away, and every year around this time I feel the same gentle pull to slow things down.

I always take Christmas week and the week after off. It's my reset. Fewer plans, quieter mornings, and time to just enjoy the house, the season, and the people in it without feeling like I need to be producing or checking boxes. I've learned over the years that this pause makes all the difference, and I look forward to it every December.

Around the nest this week, things have been simple. A little tidying, a little wrapping, and a lot of soaking in the last cozy days before Christmas arrives. No big projects, no rush. Just settling in and letting the season be what it's meant to be.

If you're feeling the urge to slow down too, I hope you give yourself permission to do exactly that. There's plenty of time for everything else later.

I'll be taking a little break over the holidays, but I'll be back in the new year with more Happenings Around the Nest. Until then, I hope the coming days are filled with calm moments, cozy corners, and whatever helps you slow down and enjoy the season.

Missed the last few weeks? Catch up here!

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful close to the year šŸ¤
